Great news for mobile instant messaging and Internet calling application Nimbuzz this morning. Since the client debuted in Nokia’s Ovi Store, it has been downloaded more than 1 million times! Also, the client is being used in more than 180 countries around the world. That’s millions of users of the chat/voice client who are getting around high-priced text messaging plans and voice minutes.
For those unaware, Nimbuzz is a client that runs on many mobile phones including Nokia, iPhone, Android, and Palm that allows you access to many IM networks you already use.
The IM networks supported by Nimbuzz include: (Skype, Facebook, Windows Live Messenger, Yahoo! Messenger, AIM, Google Talk (Orkut), ICQ, MySpace, and Gadu Gadu.
So: bottom line – if you’re looking to chat or talk cheaply to your contacts, try out Nimbuzz on your mobile phone now. Another cool feature: you can do SkypeOut calling along with “NimbuzzOut” wich allows you to call normal landlines and cellular phones at very cheap per minute rates!
How long has Nimbuzz been on the Ovi store? 1M in what time period?
Hey Jason,
not sure exactly when, but according to this blog post. It appears they’ve been in the Ovi Store since the beginning of September.

1m in 5 months isn’t bad. I wish Nokia would release some more specific numbers for Ovi that separate out app downloads from content downloads.
is this better or worse than fring (which I sometimes use as it supports Skype chat as well as other IM networks)?
