Motorola Milestone (Droid) Is Flying Off Shelves in UK

The Motorola Droid is one of Motorola’s latest Android handsets. Here in the United States, the Droid has been selling very well. In fact, according to Admob (a mobile ad firm), their numbers show that Droid is generating about 50% of all Android mobile web traffic – pointed to some amazing sales figures for Motorola and Verizon Wireless.

Well, it appears the Droid is selling well across the pond in the United Kingdom as well. The Motorola Milestone (the name of the Droid over in UK) is now completely sold out on eXpansys, an online retailer in the UK. UK customers have made the Milestone “the fastest selling gadget in the website’s 11 year history, even more successful than the iPhone”. eXpansys sold out of the Milestone in just three hours.

These figures are astounding and I believe they show a pent up demand for a phone that rivals the iPhone in usability and application selection. Android is just now starting to take off, a year after its announcement and it’s exciting from the perspective of a mobile enthusiast!

I have been utilizing a Verizon Motorola Droid for a few weeks now…watch for my full review coming soon!

  1. Awesome info here. On the Milestone, I have tried and tested both phones, although not side by side. My immediate response was ‘Is Motorola and Google afraid of a lawsuit from Apple in terms of Multi touch’? I’d love that feature on this phone.

I love the functionaility of the Milestone though, and the screen is utterly gorgeous. One other thing that I liked was the ‘lip’ at the bottom of the Milestone which I found not an intrusion, more a welcome step to stabability when sliding out that generously sized QWERTY keypad.

I think Android will dominate the smart phone market in 2010 – with the HTC Bravo ‘Google Phone’ coming out with its 1GHz Snapdragon CPU.

    Thank you for the images
