A new iPod Touch was unveiled on Tuesday and features many new features including an external speaker, volume rocker, App Store, and others.
However, one feature not many people to take note of is the inclusion of a microphone. Presumably this is to allow users to record voice, but if the microphone capability was combined with the right software, you could use VoIP (also known as internet telephony) on the new Touch. That’s right – perhaps in the near future we’ll be able to make cheap calls from the iPod Touch.
This can already be done on the iPhone thanks to companies such as Truphone and their iPhone applicaton.
I’ll be following up with Truphone to see if they’re working on an app for the iPod Touch.
