Ricky Gervais may have a funny podcast, but would you pay for it? I’m one who believes podcasting should remain free, but hey whatever floats his boat.

I tend to agree… I won’t be paying for a podcast anytime soon. Although, if people are willing to pay, more power to ’em.
I would pay for a podcast, specifically a Howard Stern Podcast. I am a huge Stern fan and really wish there was a “legal” way to get the show on my ipod everyday. I think that a paid stern podcast of his show would be AWESOME, or even better a paid subscription podcast that would cost the same as getting sirius but without the headache of getting another portable music player.
Think about it. Between xm and sirius they have maybe around 10million listeners. What if they came out with podcasts of all their shows that could integrate with itunes and the ipod along with any other music players on the market. I think that they would make a killing and futher increase the public knowledge of podcasts.
Actually, Ricky Gervais’ paid podcast isn’t the first pay-for-podcast at all – not even by a long shot. Almost a year ago, Stephanie Miller’s “StephCast” (http://www.stephaniemiller.com) went pay-only, and has been successfully running all that time. I understand it’s a nice little earner for them!
In addition, Air America radio has been doing it too: http://premium.airamericaradio.com/
