India Makes Moves To Give Mobile Users Choice

As GigaOm has pointed out, India is the largest mobile market in the world. The country has a population of 1.1 billion people and is now coming on the scene economically after a few rough decades. As India’s expanding middle class grows, so does their desire to be connected with friends and family.

Om Malik reports that many carriers are going to be able to be a part of India’s high speed 3G network roll-out. What does this mean, exactly? It means that, because of how the Indian government has handled the spectrum auctions, Indians are going to be able have many choices when it comes to cell phone carriers.

In the United States, we have 4 main cellular service providers while the UK has 5. Could you imagine how this type of competition would be great for the mobile markets world wide if 10-15 carriers were competing for your business?
